After seeing the problems with food, water, refrigeration, heat, and cooking from the Texas fiasco, the snow storms on the east coats, and upper Midwest. How many are comfortable with their preparedness? I thought we were set up pretty well, but found out we are still a long way from being there. Some of our problems are self induced, others weather related, and some we had just not thought about. How are you doing in going through your after event report.

I've been hoarding meat lately because of the Tyson issue and watching Christian (IAF) on telegram. Freezers are full. Think I need to can some. I've only canned ONCE and I'm not really looking forward to it.

I agree there. It takes alot to pull out the pressure canner. Water bath stuff I tend to do alot. Have been finding some Keystone meats at the store here and there. I have a decent supply of store canned meats. And we raise chickens and turkeys, so there's that.

Amishheart, The keystone canned meats seem to be the best we have found. Walmart would let you order it, but in limited quantities. We do a lot of pressure canning around here. We use an All American canner, it holds 7 qt or 9 pt jars at a time. My wife got a new water bath canner. The water bath canner is a "Fruitsaver" brand & I purchased it from Amazon - It was only fifty-some dollars. The dial indicator at the top tells you when the temp is right for your altitude to start the timing for your product. I start with all hot product - and otherwise, when I shut off the burner, I wait 5 minutes to take the lid off, then another 5 minutes to unload the jars. It's great! Everything has sealed just fine so far! It also holds 7qts or 9pts. She loves it and there isn't all that heavy pot full of hot water to dump out. The older we get the better we like simple and lite weight.

I've upped my food preps over the past few months, noticing steady price hikes here in Scotland, fewer choices. I think I'm almost at capacity, spacewise, but it's hard to resist squeezing something else in.....................

I haven't really stopped or slowed down adding to my preps, as we live in a hurricane zone, so I always take that into consideration & am always looking at ways to add provisions & skill sets.
