The seeds have been planted, they are sprouted and growing, but we are running out of room. We moved trays full out to the greenhouse, which was nice, but now the rain and cold is back. Since we don't heat the greenhouse, everything is back inside the kitchen. WOW. It looks like we are in a weather pattern that is looking a lot like last year. I sure hope not, it took till June before the tiller could be ran, which made a lot of the plants very late, and some didn't even have time to produce their fruit before the deep frost came early in the fall. If we were in a SHTF situation, it could make things very difficult. If it goes the same way as last year, our ample pantry will suffer greatly. What will you folks do if you have crop failure more than 1 year? Can you survive a multi year crisis ? How many years is enough for the pantry?

April 24 and finally got a few plants out into the garden. There is going to be a lot of weed pulling ahead before we can plant many more. Without being able to stand, it will have to be all hand work. I know I am complaining, but what the heck, its life on the homestead. Makes me really wonder what would happen to most homesteads that are 2 people units, if one person went down for an extended period of time. I have been off my feet for 6 months now and bless my wife has tried so hard to keep up, but there is just too much for her to do. I have friends and neighbors that have offered to help, but it's just not in my nature to not be able to repay that help, or just pay them a wage for their time. They all have their own places they are trying to get work done on. Maybe I am just being prideful or stubborn, I don't know which. I have been on that other side of the coin where you help and help someone and then when you need a hand they are too busy to help. Maybe it's just the times we are living in, or I have old fashion values. Or maybe I'm just venting from sitting here watching everything we have worked so hard on slow go away. I hope and pray that all of you have great gardens this year and are able to put up lots of food for winter, it looks like we may need it.

Growing food is a challenge and a gamble all the way! I hope the weather evened out for you Oldie. I wish with all my heart I had a greenhouse but have not materialized that yet. Instead I started many things under grow lights and in cold frames. I So wanted to plant out long before the frost kept returning then when it finally warmed up it warmed WAY up and despite my hardening them off to the sun I feared my little transplants were going to expire like I was. Now it is rainy and everyone and their son is complaining about that but I am super thankful.

Trend good to see you, we have finally got our garden in. As has been the normal for the last couple years, we went from freeze to melt. The temperature swings have been crazy. We have two greenhouses right now. One is only 8ft tall and 16ft wide, by 55ft long. That is our bedding house for garden transplants. The other one is 12ft tall 24ft wide and 36ft long. This one I grow in year round in gravel beds using water from my Bluegil fish tanks. We have a seed starting area in our kitchen that allows us to start 96 flats.
