I sent this to Travis in an email but thought I’d share here. Any veterans here who use the VA medical centers?
Hi, I’m Patti Erwin and my husband is Stephen. I discovered you and your channel quite by accident and not sure why I never saw it before. We are 67 and 69 years old. My husband is retired from his profession (safety/environmental engineer) and was working as a part time maintenance man the past years. After several years of college, I became a stay at home, homeschooling mom. All of our 6 children are grown, educated, and successful in their careers. (Imagine that! LOL). We raised our children in the country, raised a lot of our meat and vegetables, preserved, etc. I homebirthed, breastfed for years, homeschooled, sewed many of our clothes and made as much from scratch as possible. The past 20 years we have lived in rural NW IL.
Last November, my 89 year old mother fell ill and I came out to S CA to care for her. Up until that time, she and my 92 year old father were living on their own, and even though they were getting more infirm, between the two of them got everything done. What one couldn’t do the other could and what neither of them could do they hired done. My mom passed away in May and I am still here taking care of my dad and as long as he is of sound mind and can still get around, I do not want to put him in the care of strangers. My parents have a large property and home backed up to national forest land even though it’s in the “city”. Not as bad as it could be but still not too good in these times. So, my husband sold our place in IL, put some things in storage and is coming out to help me and my dad.
I have been seriously thinking of landing in the MO ozarks and have loved camping in and driving through MO for 20 years. My husband is actually from the Murray, KY area but he doesn’t want to go back to his home place.
Not sure how much longer my dad will need me or even if there will be a country left for me to travel but I would like to be able to connect with others like me. I have a camper van and small trailer so we won’t be “homeless”.
My husband and I are both Air Force veterans and have been getting real good care at the Iowa City VA medical center. I wondered if you are in touch with other veterans who could tell me about the medical care they receive in Columbia (or other VA medical centers in the area).
BTW, the comment with the homestead crossings guy about showing up with chickens in the trunk. Yeah, that would be me ;-)
Thanks for your insight,
patti
