For all you guys that live where there are bears live. What do you use for protection, in regards to if you have to shoot to save your life?

I have a friend that killed a bear with a .357 revolver during bow season for deer.
Generally, being loud and obnoxious keeps them away, unless there's a cub involved. Then it's best to identity where momma is and back away while keeping turned toward momma. Although, I hear bear dung smells like mace and sometimes you find they've eaten a bell or two.

I tried to research bear hunting, and what they are talking about shooting them with, I have never seen around here. I did read that a 12ga magnum slug will take one down but the bear will be about 100ft to be effective. I'm afraid that's almost change your drawer range.

If you have to take the bear, it will be a bad situation. Either full charge at 50 ft and closing or they want to climb up into the tree stand with you and don't take "no" for an answer.

I can't imagine a scarier encounter than with a bear.
