How many out there have ever wanted to raise large livestock like cattle? The infrastructure is expensive, the feed is expensive, and the processing is expensive. But that home grown steak or hamburger is sooo good I know. I guess if you take the cost of the infrastructure and divide it out by the number of years you can use it, maybe it's not so bad. The feed, I guess if you have enough land you can raise your own, be it hay or grain, maybe both. Now the real question, how many have the facilities to process their own. When we went from processing a few meat chickens to doing a hundred I realized we were not ready to try a beef. A quick check of the processing plants reviled a years waiting time. What do you do now? The ability to process a beef at home requires a lot of thought, and prep work. How many have ever done this and would you mind sharing the hows, whats involved, and what we really need to have? With the state of the food chain, I would really like to be able to do this for my family and those close that may need some help.

We raise dexter cattle and the eat like Goats so that helps with the feed bill . Our farm came with a cattle set up already so that helps . You can find used panels and equipment on places like C’list and market place .

Have you processed any of the Dexters yet, and if so, how do they taste?

I am living in Asia. We moved to our homestead from the beginning of the year that we prepared over the last 7 years.
Only have chickens as livestock. We have about a 1.5 acres area. We would like to have our own milk. Thus, I think there are 2 options. Goats or cows. For cows that would be maybe 2 of them, for goats a little more (maybe about 5 or 6). Trouble with goats is that they eat also trees. So we are trying to figure out what to do.
