Guys, we found a nice property in Douglas County: acres, a cabin and a few springs.
What do you think about Douglas county? Is land ok for farming? Considering to buy

Douglas county is nice, it is pretty far out there. This day and age that is a good thing. I am not sure about farming, lots of rocks in Missouri. I use raised bed gardening myself.

Lana. depends on what part of Douglas County. Mostly north central is little flatter. Majority of the county is hilly. We live in Douglas really haven't seen any farming except for cattle.

Farming in general is in beef in Missouri. Homesteaders either have to go Sep Holtzer or raised beds, in my observation. We are planning on raised beds and lots of composting. The good thing is that the growing season is relatively long.

We been gardening in Douglas county for 20 years. We just grow in the dirt, guess we are just poor dirt farmers.

whisperingrankins, Up until my parents got sick and we had to take care of them, we were planting about 3 acres and doing the farmers markets, canning and feeding the neighbors. Now that both are gone, we will be going back to that, but I'm afraid it will be kept in the neighborhood.

Looking for land in the area. We found 10 acres of pasture near Theodosia or 6 on the lake. Waiting for some information on both. Anyone know of anything else we need to consider?
We're an independent and agile older couple not afraid of a project. We try to prep in all ways. We garden, raise animals and fill freezers, canning jars or mylar bags like our lives are depending on it because they are. We have the mindset, tools and toys you might want and need in a neighborhood these days. We even have solar panels and batteries just waiting for a sunny spot.

Gimi, welcome to the board. I am not aware of anything in this area, however I am sure there are some.

Thanks for the encouragement. We're waiting for survey clarification to make an offer. In this market and at these prices an acre matters!
