Cherokee Firearms, in Springfield, has a beginning firearms class. The instructor is fantastic. He's with the Springfield Police Dept. It's pretty reasonable. As far as private training goes, there's a place in Galena, I can't remember the name of it. They train law enforcement and individuals as well. They also cost an arm and a leg. There's a free outdoor range in Ozark not far off 65 too. www.cherokeefirearms.com/calendar.html

I carry a S&W 9mm M&P Shield and a Ruger LCP .380. I have tiny hands and those work well for me.

I know this is an older thread but I'd like to put in my .02. youtube is a great platform for learning techniques. Dry fire is the best as long as your gun can handle it. Pretty much just rimfire and older guns can't. You can learn drawing from a holster, sight alignment, trigger pull, and overall speed this way. Even magazine changes and weapon transition. I highly recommend it. All firearm safety rules always apply. Just be sure you mentally and possibly audibly tell yourself when you unload and load a firearm and check it every time you pick it up. Avoid distractions when practicing. All your focus needs to be on what you're doing and keep ammo out of the room if possible. Theres a large number of channels that teach you this or that with techniques. Grip is a big one with handguns. Most people use thumbs forward grip nowadays but really you should use what you're best with. Growing up with rifles puts you way ahead of the game. One last thing, I highly recommend getting a weapon light. If its dark out and you want to know who or what you're shooting at its a must. Olight is a great company for that and their pistol lights fit on rifles too.

ya know that would be pretty cool to be able to just help a friend like that but theres a little problem in the money department. I hear good things about buckmarks and suppressor ready? Thats pretty cool.

Thats pretty cool. I keep thinking one day that I will win the lottery and be able to shower my friends with gifts...my wife tells that I would actually have to buy a ticket for that to happen. Might not matter if we can't find the ammo for new guns!
